Prescription compounding for children has become an increasingly called-for service. When it comes to taking medication, children can pose many challenges. Can you blame them? Too often medications have a bitter taste, are hard to swallow, hurt on the way in, and are just plain boring for an exciting little person. In addition to this, many drugs that pediatric patients need are not commercially available as liquids and only come in solid form. This poses a problem for our little loved ones, especially those that can’t swallow solid dosage forms.
Nekos-Dedrick’s Pharmacy is able to help with all of these problems. We can compound your child or toddler’s medication into customized flavorful suspensions, solutions, concentrates, lollipops, gummy bears, popcicles, lozenges, topicals, transdermals etc, to meet your child’s approval. If you are the parent of an infant we can place your child’s medication into a specially formulated pacifier or bottle.
Some of the unique conditions we compound for include:
- Attention Deficit Disorder
- Autism Spectrum Disorderv
- Nausea and Vomiting
- Diaper rash
- Acne
- Head lice and scabies
One area we have honed in on here at Nekos-Dedrick’s Pharmacy, is Autism. Medications and nutritional formulations can be customized for your loved one to eliminate casein, gluten, sugar, dyes, lactose, alcohol, and any unwanted preservatives. Once you physician has determined what nutrients your child needs we would love to create a dose your child will want to take.
Testimonial:
“Recently my daughter who is a year and a half has been getting chronic ear infections. Originally the physician prescribed an antibiotic called Augmentin, which came in a suspension form. I would dose my daughter using a 5ml dropper. Well, after 4 doses of the medication she began to scream everytime I approached her with the dropper, and my husband and I would have to hold her and force the medicine into her. This was getting difficult because even when we got it in her mouth she would spit it right back out. I was beside myself after doing this for several days and called the pediatrician. They recommended contacting Nekos-Dedrick’s and asking if there was anything they could do. The pharmacy asked if there was a particular food my daughter liked, I explained she loves blueberries. They also asked if she uses a pacifier at all. Within a half an hour the pharmacist came out holding a pacifier. They explained that they favored the medication “blueberry” and that all I had to do was place 2ml of the drug into the chamber of the pacifier at the time of administration, and I would know that she received all of the medication once the chamber was empty. I am 7 doses down and she is asking for her binky.”
